Excellent copy of the First and only edition,in publishers cloth skilfully recased preserving the original coated endpapers.Illustrated throughout with engravings,lithographs (One in colour)mounted Woodburytype photographs,folding pedigrees,geological tables & fragile manuscript facsimiles, all (Unusually) intact. A contemporary review in The Antiquary states " The character of the work entitles it to a much wider circulation. Only 300 copies have been struck off, of which 50 are on large paper " and concludes. "As for the book itself it would not be fair to dismiss it from notice without adding that it is in every way a noble specimen of printing, and that the paper & binding correspond in excellence with the typography which we should imagine has never been equalled yet, and certainly never surpassed in any book printed far away from the metropolis.
