First edition paperback in an unusual almost square format, published by Penguin in a loose association with the Council for Industrial Design, and planned around the 'Britain Can Make it' exhibition of 1946. Of course, at the time, Britain probably couldn't, and with the reproduction of any book taking anything up to 2 years, it was a minor miracle that the 7 books in this series were published at all. A year late for the exhibition was neither here nor there. There are well illustrated fascinating period pieces; this example in excellent condition, with only a few minor nicks in the dustwrapper.
