Ashmead-Bartlett was a war correspondent in Gallipoli, and his reports appearing in Australia gave a moving account of the ANZAC operations. Fell out with the British commander for criticising the camapaign and its management. Having suffered appalling losses, the soldiers were evacuated from Gallipoli and went to France in time for the Somme in 1916. Not Winston Churchill's finest hour. He sponsored the attack as a distraction from ther Western Front, but the position and fighting capabilities of the Turks was seriously underestimated, 164pps + 4 pps of adverts, and fold-out map of the peninsuala at front. Nicely rebound in brown buckram with gold lettering to spine., page edges foxed as one might expect. Not dated, but believed to be a contemporary publication. Very uncommon title and very collectible.ff the Canadians finest moment was Vimy Ridge, the Australians was Gallipoli.
