Edith Somerville wrote a series of humorous comic Irish stories in conjunction with her cousin Violet Martin (pseud.Martin Ross), a partnership which continued after Martin's death (in 1915) through spiritualistic 'automatic writing'. This copy was the property of R.A.Butler - "RAB" - the Conservative politician. Pp.viii/309/2(ads), black & white frontispiece + further illustrations by E.Œ. Somerville throughout, gift message "To R.A.B. from Aunt Min" to title page, small bookseller's label (Slatter & Rose, Oxford) to inside front board, browning to inner endpapers and a few minor spots throughout.
