Edges lightly rubbed and soiled, corners bumped. All page edges bright gilt. Original brown endpapers. Small binder's label to recto of rear board: "Bound By Leighton Son And Hodge". Clean pages throughout (just the odd brown spot), un-paginated, with woodcut page borders of designs after Holbein, Dürer and his contemporaries. Plus, a woodcut portrait of Elizabeth at prayer to verso of the title-leaf.
