Large 4to. pp.18/[46pp.]/pp.99 . 11.5" x 8.5" x 1.25". Tan half calf spine and corners over marbled boards. Smooth spine with gilt banding and crimson leather title label (the leather with a couple of dark spots - possible ink stains?). Later cream endpapers. Printed title, eighteen pages of preliminary matter, followed by 30 engraved plates, (Sixteen of the plates have an accompanying leaf baring letterpress transcription of the document depicted in the plate.). Followed by an "Appendix." (Beginning with; "A Glossary Of Latin Words") . There is a neat hand-written note to the top of the page: "Notes taken from "Our Public Records" by A. C. Ewald. Also from; "A Manual for the genealogist, topographer, antiquary and legal professor, by Richard Sims, 1888". Numerous neat notes follow some of the entries. Light foxing to the back of a few of the plates and some marks within the text (from previous use), but overall a well preserved book with excellent illustrations. Full title reads: "Court-Hand Restored or the Student's Assistant in Reading Old Deeds, Charters, Records etc. Neatly Engraved on Twenty-Three Copper Plates, Describing the Old law Hands, with their contractions and Abbreviations. A work not only useful to remind the learned, but absolutely necessary for young students, and others, who have occasion to consult old charters, deeds, or records.
