A very good full leather binding. 4to. 9" x 7.25" x 1". Dark brown morocco. Front board with previous owner's name: "The Reverend Edward Thomas Cate". Spine with4 raised bands and gilt (dulled) titles: 'The Book Of Common Prayer' ; 'The Church Of England' ; '1843' . Deckled (rough-cut) page edges. Yellow endpapers. Fine engraved bookplate to the verso of the front board for; Herbert John Gladstone. Decorated title in red & black, with light brown spots. Clean text with just the odd brown spot. Printed throughout in red and black with rubricated titles and text within ornamental borders. Contents include: The Calendar with the Table of Lessons and Psalms; Tables and Rules for the Feasts and Fasts throughthe whole year; The Order of Morning Prayer; The Order of Evening Prayer; The Creed of Saint Athanasius; The Litany; Prayers and Thanksgivings upon several occasions; The Collects, Epistles, and Gospels to be used at the Ministration of the holy Communion, throughout the year; The Order of the Ministration of the holy Communion; The Psalter. Colophon to last leaf: "London: Printed by Robson, Levey, and Franklyn, Great New Street, Fetter Lane." Followed by a separate slip of paper inserted befor the endpaper: "It is intended to publish, as speedily as possible, The Psalter with the Gregorian Chants, uniform with the present Volume. London, March 1st, 1843."
