[Churchill (W.S.)] Secretarial Autograph Letter in the hand of and signed by S.W. Harris to P. Guedella, on Home Office stationery, thanking him for his invitation to speak at the Visitors Debate of the Oxford Union., but regretting he is unable to attend. , .1p. 8vo., Oct. 5th.,1911. An interesting piece of manuscript ephemera. It dates from Churchill's last days in the Home Office; prior to his appointment as First Lord of the Admiralty. This was not his first invitation to address the Oxford Union for he had taken part in debates in 1902 and1907. Philip Guedalla (1889 - 1944) was a British barrister, and a popular historical and travel writer and biographer. He was President of the Oxford Union in 1911 and a member of Balliol College.
