Title-leaf and 440pp, with 275 text illustrations in b/w & line, Together with, in a matching portfolio, 91 plates, mostly in colour, depicting several hundred mineral specimens [each of which is identified on the accompanying printed key tissue-guards], and including the plate more usually placed as the frontispiece to Volume One. All plates present and correct as called for, despite the usual apparent anomaly in the numbering. A little fairly insignificant old insect nibbling to the tissue-guard to the first plate. The text volume has marking to some nine leaves, apparently caused by the volume being closed on a little watery ink. Rubbing to spines, edges and corners of the original matching bindings of dark-brown half-morocco/green cloth-covered bevelled-edge boards, with double gilt rulings/ five panel spine with gilt double rulings and gilt decorated heads & tails, and with gilt titles.
