Haldane Esq." at head of title-page, 'Entre CD' on lower blank margin of p.25, 25 large woodcuts and numerous woodcuts in the text, illustrated with coastal recognition views and plans of harbours throughout, some full-page, some gatherings a little loose, "Catalogue Des Livres & Cartes Marines Imprimés chez la Veuve de Guillaume Grauchet, ." final leaf is "Privilege General du Roy.", [4], 413, [21], [2] pp., some light damp staining in places and short tears in blank margins, contemporary vellum partly loose from the text, but with no loss. Le Petit Flambeau de la Mer, for coastal pilots of France, the British Isles, Ireland, Spain, the Mediterranean coast and islands, was first issued in 1684, and was little changed in subsequent editions, even when it gained renewed currency in the heightened naval activity of the Napoleonic Wars, until the first English edition appeared in 1802.
