Part of the Editorial is worth quoting: "Most new journals desire to please the public. We have no such ambition. Our desire is to please ourselves, and by so doing we hope to please others. The person of unique taste in all things is very rare. We do not claim to be unique in all things; on the contrary, we believe that there are many who think as we do, who like what we like, and who desire, like ourselves, a medium for the expression of their thoughts and tastes. They are our public, and we come forth to meet them. It is no use appealing to the aristocracy; that class has long ceased to exist, its place is occupied merely by a person with a name. It would be equally useless to appeal to the democracy, for the modern democrat is generally ashamed that he is not something else. As for the bohemian, we pass him by; he is too preoccupied with his relations to the other classes....." The magazine's editor is not acknowledged.
