"My dear James, Your admirable letter received and points taken, and accepted with pleasure including (1) 5 pictures ready by mid-Oct (or end Sept) (2) general method of operation. EXCEPT: I cannot see way to being advisory art-editor within its meaning as stated. I shall totally approve CONTENTS, if your 'a.b.c.' on 'contd.2' sheet apply - and only those classes of picture are included. But I shall most likely NOT approve production, reproduction, paper, colour-work etc. This doesn't worry me as an artist (any artist has been reproduced worse many times, and anyway it doesn't matter WHICH.) But it does worry me as an art-editor. Maybe we want to revise the scale of payment for pictures? Maybe you would like to pay me something for informal (but copious) advice, to be unacknowledged in the book, on what to reproduce, and how and where to find artist or artist for category 'c'?
