First edition, 4to, viii,69pp., 43 lithographed and engraved plates (several folding, some hand-coloured), and thirty nine woodcuts. One plate(representing hills and valleys has a third of the page missing). All others are present. A number of pages have foxing . Bound in original half leather boards scuffed but with a new matching leather spine with a gilt title. The book has been professionally recased with new endpapers. This first edition is especially scarce. On the title page it reads " containing many original designs and sketches for hills, trees, cliffs, rocks, north-points, scrolls, border & titles for estate & parish maps, railway plans and sections and every description of ornament required in the above professions."
