The upper panel is double gilt ruled surrounding a gilt crown over a rose. The title and Vol No. in gilt directly applied occupy the next two panels. Panels 4 & 5 are double ruled with elaborately decorated centres. The lowest panel carries a gilt crown over portcullis. The back and front boards have double ruled gilt borders with elaborate gilt crests. The doublures are blind ruled. Endpapers are a superb quality of marbled stock. The edges are marbled. Vols I & II. show the lightest of scuffing to the boards with slight wear to the hinges. Vol. III. shows a small repaired tear to the freont board. There is astain to the lower edge of the back board. The contents show some occasional light soiling. In all a very good set.
