Line engraved map of England and Wales. Scale 1 inch to 23 miles. Mounted and dissected. Open size:- 43 x 54cm. Printed area:- 39 x 50cm. Panel sizes:- 83 x 135mm. Closed size:- 9 x 14cm. County boundaries delieated in colour. Showing principal towns, villages and roads. Existing and projected railways are shown. There is hill shading. The map is not dated but shows the Maryport and Carlisle Railway, opened in 1845. On the East Coast the line is complete from York to Darlington.There is a neat inscription dated 1846 to the inside of the front cover. In the original dark green cloth over boards. Gilt title "Black's Travelling Map of England. Price 2s.6d. " to blind bordered front cover. Matching blind border to back cover. Lacks the silk tie. Overall a very good plus copy.
