At this time Phil Bull relied mainly upon speed of the racehorses in the individual races. The fastest two-year-old colt was Lord Derby's Gulf Stream a son of Hyperion. Phil rated Neolight the fastest two-year-old filly. She was daughter of Nearco and trained by Fred Darling. The greatest racehorse of the year was the tree-year-old colt Dante a son of Nearco.
