This was a truly great year for British horse racing. Vincent O'Brien trained the two-year-old Nijinsky. Its Canadian bred sire Northern Dancer was yet to make his name. Nijinsky won his five races, but only one in England yet he was rated the top Timeform two-year-old colt. Other top thorourbreds included Levmoss who not only won the Ascot Gold Cup but also the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe a remarkable double.
