Guest, H. M. With Lord Methuen: From October 1899 to December 1901 , Klerksdorp: H. M. Guest, 1901.Third Edition. Quarter-Leather. Very Good. This edition was issued in Dec 1901 and includes the battles of Modder River and Magersfontein. There are some very interesting annotations in pencil, from p70 onwards, that are by someone who served in the campaign but the author is sadly anonymous. It would seem that this edition was issued in paper wrappers and this has been somewhat crudely bound in paper boards with a leather spine and leather label with title on the front board. The leather spine is somewhat worn with some loss at ends and a 1" split at bottom. The original wrapper (with the title in the middle of a union jack) has been reinforced by a strip of paper. There are 3pp of ads at the rear and the last leaf is similarly treated. I am not sure if there should have been a rear wrapper after this leaf. The book is holding internally but hinges are a bit weak in places. Otherwise the book is OK inside. 97pp + 3pp ads. Uncommon in any edition and seemingly more so in the early wrappered editions. Postage will be confirmed when you enquire or order and for light or very heavy books will vary from the ABE quote which is based on a 1kg parcel. (Book ref. 002189) £90.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, The Book Business , are shown in the right-hand column. |
