Smith, J. Richard; Kay, Antony L. German Aircraft of the Second World War , London: Putnam, 2002.

Illustrated by Photographs. Line Drawings. Revised Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. Sm 4to 0851779204 German Aircraft of the Second World War (Putnam's History of Aircraft). Dust jacket complete, unclipped, tiny closed tear. Green cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership inscription. 400p. Photographs. Line Drawings. First published in 1972, this book has been through eight reprintings, but now is republished in a revised edition incorporating new information and illustrations. The book traces the development of the German aircraft industry from the restrictions imposed by the 1919 Treaty of Versailles through to the rebirth of German military aviation in 1935, when the Nazi government renounced its treaty obligations. The history of German military aviation during 1935-45 is told via detailed descriptions and development and operational histories of its aircraft. The bulk of the book is a complete catalogue of all categories of aircraft in service with German military and naval aviation during the war, including operational aircraft and the major types of trainers. It also covers Germany's rotary-wing aircraft, forerunners of today's helicopter, including the gyro-kites used at sea with the U-boats. The book is rounded out by a selection of aircraft projects and guided and unguided missiles. Appendices list the type numbers allocated to German aircraft, and many of the more advanced projects. There is also a list of all known preserved aircraft wherever located in the world; and a complete list of all German aircraft projects. The revision incorporates new material including information drawn from postwar testing by pilots in the Soviet Union, the United States and Britain. The revisions ensure that this book remains the most complete reference work of its kind. Cover illustration: an original painting by Barry Weekley of Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-7s of Sturmstaffel 1. The pilots of this special unit, formed in 1943, declared that they would bring down at least one enemy bomber during each mission, if necessary by ramming them. Failure could result in a charge of cowardice in the face of the enemy. (Book ref. 124697)  £39.00
