Introduction by Edward Storey - "These poems were written for St. Michael's Church, Discoed. The earliest was The Discoed Bell", composed for the Millennium 2000 celebrations when, on 1 st January at mid-day, church-bells throughout Britain were rung to welcome in another age. The poem is now read each year at the beginning of our Christmas Day Morning Service. There have been other occasions which I felt deserved remembering, such as the ceremony of lighting a beacon on Litton Hill for special national events, or the death of a neighbour, but it is the church itself, with its 5000 year-old yew tree, that constantly claims my attention. Living next door makes it impossible to ignore either, yet I know it is more than their physical presence that calls. These poems are about the present as well as the past, and I see them as part of a daily service in our community. They also express my gratitude to the people of Discoed and The Friends of St. Michael's."
