The first comprehensive study of British gold in the Bronze Age is presented here with many detailed photographs illustrating the technological achievement of the prehistoric goldsmiths. In the first part of the book Dr Taylor describes the prehistoric technology of gold and the history of its use in Britain from about 2000 B.C. to 500 B.C. In her first chapter she discusses and evaluates the methods of analysis which arc employed, and in the following chapters she considers in detail the archaeological i111plications of the gold objects and their technology. The second part of the book is a corpus of all known gold objects of this period, including those that are now destroyed. It is the only such corpus to include the whole of the British Isles. This will be an invaluable work of reference for European prehistorians, for historians of technology and metallurgy, and for those with special interest in the early history of jewellery. The author is Rankin Lecturer in Prehistoric Archaeology, University of Liverpool.
