Bright gilt decoration on upper cover. No ownership inscription. Augustino Da Siena, the 1568 edition of his writing book in facsimile.The text is set in 13pt Monotype Poliphilus and Blado and is printed on mould made paper from the Wookey Hole Mill, Somerset. The binding is in Relon `Terre de Cuivre' made by Rougier & Pie, Paris, and the endpapers are Ingres 'Tabac' made by Canson & Montgolfier, Paris. The brasses were cut by Mackrell of Essex and Avison of London. The jacket paper is `Tre Kronor' from the Tumba Mill, Stockholm. The book was designed by Montague and Susan Shaw, printed by Vivian Ridler at The University Press, Oxford, and bound by Bookbinders of London. Compliments slip enclosed signed by Susan Shaw of The Merrion Press. To honour Alfred Fairbank on his eightieth birthday in July 1975, The Merrion Press in England, and David Godine in the United States are publishing this facsimile of the superb writing manual of Augustino da Siena with an introduction specially written by Alfred Fairbank, probably the most distinguished scribe and calligraphic scholar in the Western World.
