Very Good/Good. 8vo Dust jacket in clear protective sleeve, unclipped, rubbed to edges with some loss. Red cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership inscription. lxi, 353 pages clean and tight. This well known work of scholarship brings together six lives of Milton written within sixty years of his death. A basic reference book for all students of the period, it was first published in 1932 and has been in continuous demand since it went out of print more than twelve years ago. Though these lives have supplied material for all subsequent biographies of Milton they are not easily accessible to the general reader in their original texts. It is therefore hoped that their re-issue in this edition will be widely welcomed. Dr. Helen Darbishire, who was Principal of Somerville College, Oxford, from 1931 to 1945, died in 1961.
