Written on the battlefield at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and beautifully illustrated with facsimiles of the diary pages by artist and military reporter Pham Thanh Tam. The harrowing detail of the 300 mile trek to the battlefield and the 55 days and nights of the battles that was fought in barren hilltops and in underground trenches during the Vietnam War.
