First Edition. Hard Cover. Good.. Gilt top edge. Spine ends are bumped and small area rubbed by bottom front side of spine. Some pages are rough-cut at bottom edge. P.93 has a ½" tear by front edge, and pages 57, 73 and 89 have small piece missing by bottom front edge. Page 95 has a tear going from front to bottom edge about 3½" (the tear is still attached in places). Previous owner's small bookplate inside front board. Pages are clean and bright. A good tight copy. x, 185pp. The author refers only to those names which have a 'history,' he includes hamlets and farms which appear to be ancient. He finds that small places are frequently found to be of great antiquity, and many a name recorded in Domesday Book is concealed under its modern title. The places are put alphabetically .
