Spine slightly faded, but title in gilt still bright, top and bottom of spine slightly bumped and rubbed and at back spine edge by the top and bottom of spine, top of spine a little frayed. A very good tight copy, most of the text pages are free of foxing and are clean and bright, just a few have one or two spots, there is foxing on the blank pages (not tissue) which protect the full-page illustrations, few of the illustrations have the odd spot or two of foxing. The pages are rough-cut at the top and front edge. Page 123 has small pieces missing at front edge (see picture). Previous owner's bookplate inside front board, and small bookseller's label inside back board. Free endpapers, are black one side, other side is browned. A very good tight copy. xii, 226pp, index. With 22 full-page woodcuts including frontispiece, 6 full-page steel engravings engraved by H. Adlard and 22 woodcuts in the text engraves by G. Pearson.
