Original decorated maroon cloth, gilt titling to the spines.These two volumes are only in good minus condition; the bindings are rubbed and lightly stained, the bindings are lightly shaken with a couple of signatures proud, there is a blindstamp to the front free endpaper of volume 1, and each volume has an ownership inscription to the half-title. Volumes 1 and 3 of a double-decker set. William Gilbert, perhaps best known as the father of the comic writer W S Gilbert, was the author of over 40 works, all of which are hard to find today in their original editions.
