First edition (hardback). 4to (35cm by 29cm), 27pp text, 80pp photogravure plates, vignette illustration to the title page, one text illustration. Original full brown crushed morocco. The binding of this copy is in tatty condition (spine and boards detached, boards heavily rubbed and scuffed); several of the tissue protectors are creased and torn, the plates are generally in very good condition. The text block is tightly bound, so this is suitable as a binding, working or reference copy. There is no frontispiece or half-title in this copy, and no indication of whether these are called for.
