New Edition. 8vo First published between 1856 and 1870,this was a best seller of its day and ran to a seventh edition in Froude's life time. His prose and narrative style was unmatched by any other historian, however Froude was reviled by his fellow scholars, because although he worked from manuscript sources, he was careless and biased. Full crushed morocco with gilt decoration and raised bands, marbled endpapers and page edges.
