Tolkien, J.R.R.: The Fellowship of the Ring , London: George Allen and Unwin, 1959First Edition, eighth impression, very good condition, in very good unclipped grey dust jacket (states fifth impression) with light wear at edges, faded and spine sunned, red clothboards with gilt blocking to spine bumped at spine edges, fold out map to rear, inscription to owner on front free endpaper, small sticker of Cambridge bookseller Bowes and Bowes to front stuckdown, red top edge to pages, 424 pages NB: I bought what I believed to be a 2:2:1 set from Bloomsbury Auctions some time ago only to discover, after a bit of research, that it was a 2:3:1 set. I only discovered the difference because of an ebay listing some time later, followed by a bit of research. It is a querk of the 3rd impression that they removed the date off the title page but neglected to add '3rd impression' to the verso. Second impression has the date '1955' on the title page. The expert at Bloomsbury Auctions didn't know this, although admitted the mistake when challenged. You're in the best of company on this one! (Book ref. 522) £250.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, The Old Print House , are shown in the right-hand column. |
