DOUGHTY (C.M). LAWRENCE (T.E), intro.: Travels in Arabia Deserta. With a New Preface by the Author, Introduction by T E. Lawrence, and all original Maps, Plans and Illustrations [Thin-Paper Edition] , Jonathan Cape and The Medici Society, [1926]

8vo., Second Impression thus, Thin Paper, with a portrait frontispiece, 8 plates (3 folding with original tissue guards present), a folding plan, very numerous illustrations, diagrams and plans in the text, and a very large folding coloured map at end, free endpapers mildly browned, some light offsetting from folding plates to adjoining leaves; original blue cloth, gilt back, a remarkably bright, clean, fresh copy. First published in 1888, Doughty's classic account reached its third edition in 1921 still in two weighty volumes. In conceiving the much-needed Thin Paper Edition, the publishers were able to contain the entire work, complete with all its illustrations, maps and plans, in a single volume. The present copy is the second impression thereof. 'It has been considered convenient in this [thin-paper one-volume] edition to retain the general arrangement of the original two-volume edition as finally revised by the author. Thus the numbering of the pages will be found to start afresh at the beginning of volume two, and the Index to remain as in the earlier editions' (Publishers' Note). Scarce, especially in this condition. (Book ref. 19321)  £92.00
