Undoubtedly the author's most sought-after work, Durrell's unsurpassed first volume of autobiography is a twentieth century classic. His wonderfully written and often hilarious recollections of childhood and natural history on Corfu are augmented by Ralph Thompson's splendid d/w artwork. The Durrell-Thompson partnership, prose perfectly complemented by illustrations, enhanced all the early Durrell works published by Hart-Davis.
