8vo., Second Impression, with a frontispiece, 40 plates on 22, a full-page map and a full-page plan in the text, and endpaper maps, some light offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; cloth, gilt back, covers very lightly browned at edges else a very good, clean copy in the d/w, the latter mildly creased and frayed at edges. Published in the same year as the first edition. The classic, well-illustrated account of SOE agent Violette Szabo, the only woman agent to be awarded the George Cross during WWII. This book forms the basis of Lewis Gilbert's classic feature film (1958) starring Virginia McKenna, Paul Scofield and Jack Warner. Increasingly elusive in this condition.
