Fine and Rare Books in the Heart of Britain's West Country

Churchill (W.S): A History of the English-Speaking Peoples ['Chartwell' edition] , Educational Book Company, [1956-58]

4 vols., roy. 8vo., First Edition thus, with very numerous plates, and maps and genealogical tables (the majority full-page) in the text, some very mild spotting to endpapers as often; original buckram gilt, gilt backs, morocco labels gilt, covers very lightly age-marked, labels chafed at edges else a very good, bright, clean set. 'I agreed to allow the publishers of the illustrated edition of 'The Second World War' to name it after my country home near Westerham in Kent where so much of it had been written. As these special volumes of 'A History of the English-Speaking Peoples', also illustrated, are being brought out as a companion set, I feel it is appropriate that they, too, should be known as the 'Chartwell' edition' (Winston S. Churchill). This splendid edition of Churchill's last major work was issued on a subscription basis. See Woods, p.125. (Book ref. 19652)  £240.00
