With a presentation bookplate on front paste-down (mildly offset to half-title). Whitehead was curate at St. Luke's in London's Soho during the terrible cholera outbreak of 1854. He worked with John Snow to define the source of the epidemic and the two men eventually traced the outbreak to a faulty cesspool. The methods adopted, combining detailed demographic analysis with scientific observation, are considered an important landmark in the development of epidemiology. Very scarce.
