Folio, First Edition, with a mounted coloured frontispiece, very numerous coloured and monochrome reproductions and illustrations (many mounted, many full-page and a number folding) throughout, large folding coloured map in pocket on front paste-down, large folding facsimile in pocket on rear paste-down; red cloth, upper board with arms blocked in gilt, white faux-vellum back lettered in gilt, a near fine copy in unclipped d/w, the latter with short closed tear (neatly repaired) at head of backstrip, and medium-length closed tear (neatly repaired) at lower margin of rear panel (caused by carless extraction from the slip-case), the whole housed in publisher's black board slip-case blocked in gilt. A magnificent production recounting the political, social, cultural and artistic history of the sixteenth-century city. (Book ref. 19806)  £48.00
