8vo., First Edition, with a coloured frontispiece, 2 coloured plates, 96 monochrome plates on 64, and front and rear endpaper maps in green, small neat signature on front free endpaper verso, some light offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers, some light scattered spotting to text; cloth lettered in black, a good, sound copy in the d/w, the latter sunned at backstrip, rubbed and lightly soiled. Published in Batsford's notable 'British Heritage' series with wrap-around d/w artwork by Brian Cook. This volume suffers from wartime production values and is rarely found in really good state.
