A limited reprint of the original American unit history, they flew with the US 8th Air Force out of Thetford in Norfolk This Group consisted of the 368th, 369th & 370th Fighter Sqs, and flew both the P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang. They ended the war with 373 aerial victories. Constituted as 359th Fighter Group they moved to England in Oct 1943 and became part of the 'Mighty 8th'. Engaged primarily in escort activities to cover bombers that attacked airfields in France, May 1944 provided escort for bombers that struck the German rail network and oil refineries in Poland. Patrolled the English Channel in June 1944 in support of the D-Day landings, escorting bombardment formations to the French coast, and dive-bombing and strafing bridges, locomotives, and rail lines near the battle area.
