Original cloth,ex-library with trace of label to spine, ink stamp on front free endpaper, blind stamps to title-page and last leaf, and two ink stamps to verso of title-page. The front cover is faded round the edge where a smaller book has lain on top and the top of the spine is a little frayed, but this is very tight, sound and clean copy. Scarce in original cloth. Presentation inscription on endpaper from his friend the editor to Thomas Maitland who was a Scottish Judge, M. P. for Kirkubrightshire and twice solicitor-general. He possessed a magnificent library which was dispersed over nine days in 1851 (see D.N.B ). Also engraved bookplate of Sir G Graham Montgomery. (Book ref. 1962)  £650.00
