Clevely, H C, The First Edition and Book Collector

Clevely, H. C: The First Edition and Book Collector. , London: The First Edition and Book Collector No. 1 July - August 1924.

28 by 22 cms. 48 pp. illustrated. Page decorations, initial letters and tail pieces by Alan Odle and from old woodcuts. In blue library boards without original wraps, ex-library, but the only other evidence is a small withdrawn, sold stamp on the title page margin. Articles include, "On Collecting First Editions, How I built myself a house by Thomas Hardy, The Condition of Books, George Moore, Extending the collecting interest, Poem Winter Nightfall, Buying first editions and picking up bargains, Cafe Royalists, Marie Romesco, The Quinn Sale, Walt Whitman, Psycho-Analysts and Others: Notes on Modern Authors." the latter article dismisses Ulysses as, "certainly not a great piece of literature, except in size. It is twice as long as a Railway Timetable and not half so interesting." Perhaps so, but who would't want a first of it today? We cannot trace furher issues. (Book ref. 10598)  £25.00
