In four quarto volumes, 26 by 21.5 cms. Vol. I, vi+586 (18) pp. frontispiece and 11 engraved plates. Vol. II, 652 (16 ) pp. and 8 engraved plates. Vol. III, 652 (12) pp. and 7 engraved plates. Vol. IV, 718 (24 ) pp. with large folding map and 22 engraved plates. The map is by Lowndes and dated Oct. 29th 1793, it is of pre-revolutionary France. Vol. II has the imprint for C. Lowndes and sold by J. Parsons Paternoster Row. Vol III has, printed for C.Lowndes and W. Locke. Vol. IV has, printed for C.Lowndes. All four vols have been recently rebound in burgundy cloth with six panelled spines gilt lining and double spine titles. There is odd spotting and minor wear to the text blocks but the overall condition is very good, a handsome set for the shelf but of course heavy, with extra postage required. This history is carried up to the end of the reign of Louis XV. It was first published in weekly parts in 1791. The author's name is a pseudynom for John Richard Green, 1758-1818. A second edition added a further volume covering the reign of Louis XVI and the Revolution.
