16.5 by 10.5 cms. 576 pp. engraved title page, bound in half leather and marbled boards, five panelled spine with raised bands and gilt lining, along with an original spine label. On the front pastedown is a small bookseller's label for S. Eccles Coleraine. Showing very little wear, a nice copy. Charlotte Elizabeth Tonna 1790-1846 was an English Evangelical Protestant writer and novelist. She was born in Norwich but came to Kilkenny, in Ireland, after marriage to her first husband. After separation in 1824 she returned, married Lewis H. Tonna and died in Ramsgate. Whilst in Ireland she started writing for the Dublin Tract Society. She wrote two novels, "The Rockite", in 1832, and, "Derry", in 1839. She published volumes of verse, including two vigorous Orange ballads. She edited, "The Protestant Magazine", "The Protestant Annual", and, "The Christian Ladies Magazine". This volume contains an interesting article on the prospects for Jewish re-settlement in Palestine. (Book ref. 12991)  £45.00
