Each tissue guarded portrait is accompanied by a biographical text. Personalities, all male of course, include, Prime Minister Gladstone, Disraeli, John Bright, Earl of Derby, Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Chief Justice Cockburn, Sir Garnet Wolseley, Earl of Shaftesbury, Earl Russell, Lord Cairns, Earl Granville, Duke of Cambridge, Bishop of Manchester, Sir Stafford Northcote, John Walter, Thomas Carlyle, Earl Dufferin, W.H.Smith, Rev. W. Morley Punshon, Duke of Argyll. In heavy dark green bevelled boards, with highly decorative front board patterned in black, gilt and red, a.e.g. Wear to spine extremities, and to bottom edge of rear board, corners bumped, overall in good condition despite age wear.
