Vol. 1. viii+336 pp. Vol. II. 348 pp. Vol. III. 378 pp. In half calf and plain boards, with a six panelled spine with raised bands, good bright spine, some gilt tooling and blindstamping, gilt lettered. There is a handsome bookplate on the front pastedowns of each vol. for, "Clare". This was Richard Hobart Fitzgibbon 3rd Earl of Clare, 1795-1864. He was MP for Co. Limerick 1818-1841 and Lord Lieutenant of the county from 1831. The family home was Mountshannon at Castleconnell, where he had a good reputation as landlord.The line became extinct on his death, his son having died at the charge of the Light Brigade, Balaclava. Some rubbing to board edges and corners, the final endpaper of vol I has some old creasing and there is a tear on pages 361 and 363 of vol III, the glossary, but without loss, otherwise internally tight, and bright.
