Crichton, G.H. The Genus Paphiopedilum (Second Edition 1998, signed by author) , .983-812-023-5 Second edition, now out of print. SIGNED BY AUTHOR. Very well illustrated, including watercolours by Pandora Sellars and Carol Woodin, and many colour photographs of plants in the wild, large 8vo, pp x, 428, dustwrapper, in a slipcase which is rather unevenly faded. Though this is a new copy, it came to us from Borneo, and has suffered a little from being in the tropics - the fore-edge is slightly foxed, the endpapers are a little foxed and marked, otherwise a very good sound copy. {Paphiopedilums are, and have been since the early nineteenth century, one of the most popular of all orchid groups and are now widely grown throughout the world. There are almost 70 known species, all of which have their own attractive qualities appealing to growers, but many species are rare in the wild. Recent evidence has been synthesized to produce a modern classification of the genus. Chapters on the hybridization, cultivation (by Michael Tibbes), and conservation are also included. This treatment is a framework for future research as well as a sound guide to growers of these endlessly fascinating orchids.} [N.B. Book is very heavy ! Will make up a 3 kilo parcel when packed, so extra postage rates will apply] (Book ref. 002795) £95.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, Mike Park Ltd , are shown in the right-hand column. |
