L'Estrange, Sir Roger, KT: Fables of Aesop and Other Eminent Mythologists with Morals and Reflections , London: John Gray and Co. Facsimile Edition [1979,1880]

Buckram cloth, engraved frontispiece. Facsimile of the Third Edition, Corrected and Amended, Printed London, 1669 for R. Sare, B. Took, M. Gillyflower etc. 4to. All edges gilt. Appears to be a type facsimile not ordinarily recorded. NSTC lists one copy only and that is in the BL, where it says it was published in parts. This is a bound copy in brown buckram with gilt leterring. There are some old damp stains to the bottom of the covers but this is still a nice copy, crisp and clean. [Sir Roger L'Estrange (1616 - 1704) was born at Hunstanton, Norfolk. He was a Royalist and was invited to try to recapture Lynn. This is regarded as the best edition of the Fables.
