MacNeill, Alyson. Illustrated by.: Twenty-three wood-engravingsby Alyson MacNeill for the Songs of the Forest by Colin Mackay. , The Old Stile Press. Llandogo, Nr. Monmouth 1987. 56pp 180 x 125mmThe history of this little book, and accompanying set of four engravings, is described by the printer and publisher as follows. " Alyson MacNeill produced 23 tiny wood engravings to illustrate a beautiful text. The publisher had enlarged the proofed images before printing them by rather grey lithography. The Old Stile press thought this dissipated their peculiar intensity and thought it wholly worthwhile to devote a small book to showing the wood engravings as they were intended while giving small extracts from the text to provide a context." This book was the first to be produced at the new home of the Old Stile Press at Llandogo. The boards are covered with handmade paper marbled in the Japanese style. 160 copies were printed of which 26 lettered copies, have four impressions (on different papers) of an additionl block specially cut for this edition. This is the special edition and is lettered V. Each copy is signed by the artist. The additional engravings are contained in a matching binding to the book and both are contained in a green cloth bound box. New. O/P.
