Recent end papers, and recent binding for protection, cloth spine & stiff boards with title on spine incalf with gilt lettering. 34pp. This is the first edition witha varient title page [According to (Wise) "A Dryden Library" the first edition, first issue may "be readily identified" beacuse "Page 33 carries 32 lines, and page 34 carries 12 lines respectively", (as does this copy). Wise is emphatic in stating that in the second issue there were 34 and 10 lines on pages 33 and 34. He then goes on to note variants on the title-page which help to identify the two issues. the variants in this copy differ. Taking Wise as the arbiter, this copy is therefore the first edition, first issue because of pp 33 and 34, with a variant title page. In view of his dogmatic statement: "There were only two issues only of the first edition of the Second Part of Absalom and Architophel", this copy is an exception. Fine. Wing D2350. The two parts are sold together.
