Patrick Symon was Bishop of Ely and born at Gainsborough in Lincolnshire. the Parables of the Pilgrim was first published in 1664. It is constructed on similar lines to Bunyan's Pilgrims progress, but the date shows that Patrick was no borrower from Bunyan. Although Patrick's work never attained the popularity of the Pilgrims Progress, it passed through several editions. Thomas Scott, in his edition of the Pilgrims Prgogress commends Patrick's allegory.
