BRATHWAIT (Richard): Barnabae Itinerarium; or, Drunken Barnaby's Four Journeys to the North of England: in Latin and English Metre... Together with Bessy Bell. To which is now added... the Ancient Ballad of Chevy Chase in Latin and English verse... , York: Thomas Gent, 1852;12mo, pp.xl, 324. With second title on two pages, in Latin and English, giving the author's name as Corymbaeus, preceding an engr. frontis., rather unpleasant to a cat-lover's eye, showing a cat hanged from a broomstick, being tormented, presumably by the author, with a rat! Original brown blind-stamped cloth bevelled boards, marbled e.p.s. Slight wear at head and tail of spine but no significant loss, o/w a very good, sound copy. This ed. not apparently in NSTC, which lists a 6th ed. of 1805, though with no sign that it includes Bessy Bell and Chevy Chase. (Book ref. 3277) £25.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, Nineteenth Century Books , are shown in the right-hand column. |
